Behaviour Thinking

Decoding Behaviour in UX Research

Delving into user behaviour is more than just observing actions; it's about understanding the 'why' behind them. My journey in Behaviour Thinking® began with a quest to decode these often hidden dynamics. One that took me deep into behavioural science. This workshop is an invitation to join me in mastering the art of perceiving the subtle drivers that shape our behaviour. Together, we'll go beyond the obvious, unlocking a deeper level of user insight.

Is This Workshop Right for You?

Behaviour touches all our work. You will know you are ready to reveal it by asking yourself:

  • Do you aspire to integrate a more nuanced understanding of behavioural influence into your UX work?
  • Have you encountered user responses that defy your expectations or existing data?
  • Are you seeking advanced methodologies to refine your research and design process?

Yes? Then this workshop will be a valuable addition to your professional toolkit.

What You Will Gain:

You will develop an in-depth understanding of behavioural drivers and learn to apply The Drive Grid effectively. It will empower you to identify and interpret complex user behaviours, see the hidden unknowns and transform these insights into impactful UX insights.

What To Expect:

The workshop is roughly divided into four parts:

  • Foundations of Behaviour Thinking: Introduction to the concept and its relevance in enhancing UX research.
  • Practical Observation Exercise: Conduct real-time behavioural analysis in the conference environment.
  • Collaborative Insight Review: Share and dissect observations to identify behavioural patterns and drivers.
  • Strategic Research Planning: Utilize insights to begin crafting targeted research strategies.

Interactive and Practical Elements:

This workshop is designed as an active learning experience. You'll engage in direct observation, participate in group discussions, and apply your observations to real-life user interactions. It's about turning theory into practice, ensuring you leave with applicable skills.

Requirements:

The practical part of this workshop means you will be expected to move around the conference centre. If you have mobility requirements, let the conference organisers know and Lauren will adapt this part of the workshop so that it is accessible for everyone.

Takeaways:

By the end of this session, you'll be equipped with a deeper understanding of user behaviour, one anchored in behavioural science. You'll have the framework and knowledge to delve deeper into key influences on user behaviour, enhancing your UX projects with richer, more informed insights.

Guiding UX with Behavioural Signals and Settings

In the ever-evolving world of technology and user needs, staying ahead to craft superior user experiences is the challenge of our time for UX designers. The question isn't just how to meet the demands of today but how to remain flexible for the unknowns of tomorrow.

Understanding the significant impact of the external environment on user experiences, coupled with the dynamic nature of user evolution, lies at the heart of forward-thinking design. But how exactly can we leverage these behavioural insights for more impactful experiences?

What we'll cover:

  • Decoding Behavioural Strategies: An easy-to-understand guide to the Stop, Start, Evolve, Modify, and Realign Behaviour Change Pathways.
  • Why Behaviour Change Pathways Are Key in UX: A look at why these strategies are essential for crafting user experiences that effectively shape and guide user behaviour.

Get new strategies for your UX toolbox:

  • Stop Strategy: Design techniques to discourage undesirable user actions.
  • Start Strategy: Methods to encourage users to adopt new, beneficial behaviours.
  • Evolve Strategy: Approaches to refine existing user behaviours towards improved outcomes.
  • Modify and Realign Strategies: Tactics for adjusting and aligning user behaviours to better meet UX objectives.
